Apple’s latest smartphone lineup has strengthened its position in the Indian market, with the iPhone 17 series emerging as the company’s best-performing smartphone range during the second quarter of 2026. According to market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR), the iPhone 17 series accounted for 44 per cent of Apple’s total iPhone shipments in India during Q2 2026, making it the largest contributor to the company’s smartphone sales during the quarter.

The strong performance highlights the growing popularity of Apple’s premium devices among Indian consumers, who continue to show increasing interest in advanced technology, improved performance, and long-term software support.

However, Apple’s growth during the quarter was not without challenges. The company faced seasonal pressure ahead of the upcoming next-generation iPhone launch cycle, along with supply-related difficulties caused by memory component constraints. Despite these challenges, analysts believe Apple remains well-positioned to strengthen its presence in India, especially with expectations of festive season demand and the possible arrival of a foldable iPhone.

iPhone 17 Series Leads Apple’s Smartphone Shipments in India

According to CMR’s latest estimates, the iPhone 17 series contributed 44 per cent of Apple’s total smartphone shipments in India during the April-June quarter of 2026.

The strong shipment share indicates that the latest-generation iPhone models have received a positive response from Indian customers. The series benefited from Apple’s strong brand presence, premium positioning, and continued demand for flagship smartphones.

Following the iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone 16 series secured the second position with a 40 per cent share of Apple’s shipments during the quarter.

The close competition between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 series shows that Indian consumers continue to purchase both the latest flagship models as well as previous-generation devices, especially when pricing strategies and offers make older models more accessible.

Meanwhile, other models also contributed to Apple’s overall shipment numbers.

The iPhone 17e accounted for 6 per cent of shipments, while the iPhone 16e contributed 5 per cent.

The iPhone 15 series, despite being an older generation lineup, continued to maintain relevance in the Indian market and contributed 4 per cent of total iPhone shipments during the quarter.

Apple Faces Seasonal Pressure Before New iPhone Launch Cycle

While Apple recorded strong performance from its iPhone portfolio, analysts highlighted that the April-June quarter is traditionally considered a softer period for the company.

Prabhu Ram, Vice President of the Industry Research Group at CMR, explained that Apple typically experiences slower sales momentum during this period as consumers often wait for the company’s upcoming next-generation smartphone launches.

The second quarter generally falls several months before Apple introduces its new flagship models, resulting in some customers postponing purchases.

According to CMR, this year Apple also faced additional challenges due to memory supply constraints, which affected overall smartphone shipments.

“Q2 is seasonally a softer quarter ahead of the iPhone 18 series launch and was further impacted this year by memory supply constraints,” Prabhu Ram said.

Supply chain challenges have become an important factor for technology companies globally, as shortages or delays in critical components can directly impact production and availability of electronic devices.

Despite these challenges, Apple managed to maintain strong consumer demand in India, supported by its premium brand image and expanding customer base.

iPhone 17 Success Reflects India’s Growing Premium Smartphone Market

The performance of the iPhone 17 series reflects a broader trend in India’s smartphone industry, where premium devices are gaining popularity.

Indian consumers are increasingly looking beyond basic smartphone features and are showing greater interest in:

  • Advanced camera systems
  • Faster processors
  • Artificial intelligence-based features
  • Better security features
  • Longer software update cycles
  • Premium designs and build quality

Apple has benefited from this shift as more consumers view smartphones as long-term investments rather than frequently replaced gadgets.

The company’s growing retail presence, improved availability through online platforms, and attractive financing options have also contributed to increased adoption among Indian buyers.

Apple’s iPad Business Faces Market Challenges

Apart from smartphones, Apple’s tablet business also experienced pressure during the quarter due to a broader slowdown in the global tablet market.

According to CMR, Apple’s iPad portfolio witnessed changing consumer demand patterns, although some models continued to perform strongly.

The iPad 11 series emerged as the leading tablet model for Apple in India, accounting for 55 per cent of total iPad shipments during Q2 2026.

The iPad Air 2026 series followed with a 38 per cent shipment share, showing continued demand for Apple’s mid-premium tablet category.

Other models contributed smaller shares:

  • iPad Pro 2025 series: 4 per cent
  • iPad Air 2025 series: 2 per cent

The shipment data indicates that consumers are showing stronger preference toward affordable premium iPad models rather than the highest-priced professional variants.

The iPad 11 series appears to have benefited from its balance of performance, pricing, and usability for students, professionals, and everyday users.

Festive Season Expected to Boost Apple’s Growth in India

Looking ahead, CMR expects Apple to regain stronger momentum during the festive season in India.

The festive period traditionally witnesses increased consumer spending, with buyers looking for premium electronics during major shopping events and discount campaigns.

Analysts believe Apple could benefit from this demand cycle, especially with expectations surrounding new product launches.

One of the biggest potential growth drivers for Apple could be the anticipated launch of its first foldable iPhone.

According to CMR, the introduction of a foldable device could attract new customers and create additional excitement around Apple’s ecosystem.

“Looking ahead, we expect Apple to regain strong momentum in the festive quarter, supported by the anticipated launch of its first foldable iPhone,” Prabhu Ram said.

However, supply challenges may continue to remain a concern in the short term.

Apple Targets Bigger Share in India’s Technology Market

Apple has been steadily increasing its presence in India, which has become one of the world’s most important smartphone markets.

According to CMR estimates, Apple is expected to capture around:

  • 12 per cent share of India’s smartphone market
  • 30 per cent share of India’s tablet market

by the end of calendar year 2026.

This expected growth reflects Apple’s expanding strategy in India, including stronger retail operations, local manufacturing initiatives, and increased focus on Indian consumers.

India has become a key market for global technology companies due to its large consumer base and rapidly growing demand for premium devices.

Growing Importance of India for Apple’s Global Strategy

Over the past few years, India has become increasingly important for Apple’s global business strategy.

The company has expanded manufacturing operations in the country, increased investment in retail infrastructure, and focused on improving customer experience.

The growth of premium smartphone demand has created new opportunities for Apple, especially among young professionals, business users, and technology enthusiasts.

The success of the iPhone 17 series demonstrates that Indian consumers are willing to spend on high-end devices when they offer meaningful upgrades and long-term value.

Apple’s iPhone 17 series has emerged as the company’s strongest smartphone performer in India during Q2 2026, contributing 44 per cent of total iPhone shipments and highlighting the continued strength of Apple’s premium smartphone segment.

Although the company faced seasonal slowdown and memory supply constraints, its strong product lineup helped maintain consumer interest.

The iPhone 16 series also remained highly competitive, while older models like the iPhone 15 continued to contribute to overall shipments.

With expectations of festive season demand and the possible launch of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the company is preparing for another phase of growth in India.

As competition in the smartphone market continues to increase, the success of the iPhone 17 series will remain crucial for Apple’s future growth strategy in India, Apple’s ability to maintain customer loyalty, deliver innovation, and expand its ecosystem will remain crucial for strengthening its position in one of the world’s fastest-growing technology markets.
