Kazipet–Vijayawada Multi-Tracking Sections and Rail Under Bypass Line Dedicated to the Nation
Hyderabad, May 10, 2026: Railway Projects in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated key sections of the Kazipet–Vijayawada Multi-Tracking Railway Project and dedicated the Kazipet Rail Under Bypass Line to the nation during a public event held at the HIC Centre in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
The ceremony was attended by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar, senior government officials, Members of Parliament, and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that these railway infrastructure projects would significantly improve passenger convenience, enhance freight transportation, and strengthen regional as well as national connectivity.

Railway Projects to Improve Connectivity and Transportation
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that the newly inaugurated projects would make railway operations more efficient by increasing track capacity and improving the movement of passenger and freight trains.
He highlighted Telangana’s growing contribution to India’s development and stated that the railway projects would provide fresh momentum to the state’s manufacturing sector while creating employment opportunities and boosting regional economic growth.
According to the Prime Minister, the enhanced railway infrastructure will support faster transportation, reduce congestion, and improve logistics, ultimately benefiting industries, businesses, farmers, and commuters across the region.
Significant Increase in Railway Investment
Prime Minister Modi pointed out that before 2014, the undivided Andhra Pradesh received an annual railway budget allocation of less than ₹1,000 crore. In contrast, Telangana now receives an annual railway allocation of more than ₹5,500 crore, reflecting the government’s increased focus on infrastructure development in the state.
He further informed that railway projects worth nearly ₹50,000 crore are currently being implemented at various stages across Telangana.
The Prime Minister also noted that the state is presently served by five Vande Bharat Express trains and six Amrit Bharat trains, significantly enhancing rail connectivity for passengers.
Railway Projects in Telangana: Kazipet–Vijayawada Multi-Tracking Project
The Kazipet–Vijayawada railway corridor is one of the country’s most important rail routes, connecting northern and southern India. Due to its strategic importance and heavy traffic, the construction of a third railway line along with complete electrification has been undertaken on a priority basis.
As part of this initiative, third-line construction and electrification covering a total length of 118 kilometres have been completed on the following sections:
- Kazipet–Warangal
- Nekkonda–Mahbubabad
- Dornakal–Errupalem
The total cost of these completed triple-line sections is approximately ₹1,243 crore.
Most sections of the Kazipet–Vijayawada multi-tracking project have already been completed and dedicated to the nation. Construction work on the remaining Dornakal–Mahbubabad section is progressing rapidly.

The bypass line has been constructed over a length of approximately 21 kilometres at a cost of around ₹292 crore.
Kazipet Junction is strategically located and serves as a crucial railway junction connecting three important directions:
- Secunderabad
- Balharshah
- Vijayawada
Given the heavy movement of passenger and freight trains through the junction, the new Rail Under Bypass Line has been developed to facilitate smoother operations without unnecessary delays or conflicts between train movements.
