Operation Conducted Amid Heightened Security Measures
With Independence Day approaching, Delhi Police has intensified its vigilance to prevent crimes such as illicit liquor smuggling, illegal arms trafficking, narcotics distribution, and other organised unlawful activities. As part of this special drive, the ASB Cell of Shahdara District was specifically tasked with identifying and apprehending individuals involved in bootlegging and other organised crimes that could disturb public order.
On 2 July 2026, the ASB Cell received specific and credible secret information indicating that a large consignment of illicit liquor was being transported near Green Field School, Dilshad Garden, within the jurisdiction of Shahdara District. Recognising the seriousness of the input, senior officers ordered immediate verification and swift action.

Formation of Special Raiding Team
After discreetly verifying the intelligence, a dedicated raiding team was constituted. The team comprised:
- ASI Neeraj Kumar
- HC Sachin Kumar
- HC Kumar Divya Vats
- HC Arun
- HC Parikshit
- HC Aakash
The operation was led by SI Vikrant Choudhary, In-Charge ASB Cell, Shahdara, under the close supervision of ACP Mohinder Singh, Operations, Shahdara, and overall supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara District.
Police officials stated that meticulous planning and coordination were carried out to ensure the interception could be executed without alerting the suspect.
Strategic Trap and Interception
The raiding team laid a strategic trap at the identified location near Dilshad Garden. After maintaining surveillance for some time, the team intercepted a Mahindra Bolero Pick-Up bearing registration number DL-1LAJ-1908.
During preliminary questioning, the driver identified himself as Mohit Kumar, a resident of Jhinjhana, District Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, aged 25 years. His nervous behaviour raised further suspicion, prompting a detailed search of the vehicle.
Massive Recovery of Illicit Liquor
Upon thorough inspection of the pick-up vehicle, police recovered a huge consignment of illicit liquor packed in 280 cartons. The seized liquor included:
- 10,000 quarters (200 cartons) of Deshi Sharab “Santra” (labelled For Sale in Haryana Only)
- 2,000 quarters (40 cartons) of Deshi Sharab “Night Blue” (labelled For Sale in Haryana Only)
- 480 bottles (40 cartons) of Thunderbolt Strong Beer (labelled For Sale in Haryana Only)
In addition to the liquor, the Mahindra Bolero Pick-Up used for transporting the contraband was also seized as evidence.
Police officials confirmed that the seized liquor was being illegally transported into Delhi for distribution, in clear violation of the Delhi Excise Act.

FIR Registered, Accused Arrested
Following the recovery, FIR No. 182/2026 dated 02.07.2026 was registered at Police Station GTB Enclave under Sections 33 and 58 of the Delhi Excise Act. The accused Mohit Kumar was formally arrested and taken into police custody.
The swift registration of the case ensured that legal proceedings commenced without delay, reinforcing the zero-tolerance approach of Delhi Police toward bootlegging and excise violations.
Interrogation Reveals Interstate Smuggling Network
During sustained interrogation, Mohit Kumar made significant disclosures. He admitted that he was actively involved in the illegal transportation and supply of liquor from Haryana to Delhi for monetary gain.
According to his statement:
- He procured liquor bearing “For Sale in Haryana Only” labels from suppliers operating near the Singhu Border.
- The liquor was then transported into Delhi using goods vehicles to avoid suspicion.
- Once inside Delhi, the consignment was distributed through local bootleggers, who further supplied it to unauthorised vendors.
Police believe the accused was playing a crucial role in the logistics and supply chain of a larger interstate racket.
Habitual Offender with Multiple Previous Cases
Verification of police records revealed that Mohit Kumar is a habitual bootlegger. He has been previously involved in six cases registered under the Delhi Excise Act, indicating repeated engagement in illicit liquor smuggling.
Officials stated that his prior involvement demonstrates how organised bootlegging networks rely on repeat offenders who are familiar with routes, suppliers, and distribution mechanisms.
Focus on Identifying Entire Network
Following the arrest, Delhi Police has intensified efforts to identify and apprehend:
- Suppliers operating near the Haryana border
- Receivers and distributors within Delhi
- Financiers who fund the procurement and transportation
- Other associates involved in storage and retail distribution
Police are examining call detail records, financial transactions, and logistical patterns to trace the complete network. Coordination with neighbouring states and excise departments is also being considered to dismantle the racket at its roots.

Significance of the Seizure
Officials described the seizure as a major blow to interstate illicit liquor smuggling. The sheer volume of liquor recovered suggests that the consignment was meant to supply multiple areas across Delhi, potentially generating significant illegal profits.
Illicit liquor smuggling not only causes revenue loss to the government but also poses serious public health and safety risks, as such liquor is often sold without quality checks or regulatory oversight.
Police Reiterate Commitment to Law and Order
Senior officers reiterated that Delhi Police remains committed to maintaining peace and order, especially during national events and festivals. Intelligence-driven operations, increased patrolling, and coordinated enforcement actions are being carried out across all districts.
The success of the ASB Cell, Shahdara, underscores the effectiveness of focused policing units and ground-level intelligence in combating organised crime.
Conclusion
The operation conducted by the Anti-Snatching & Burglary Cell, Shahdara District, resulting in the seizure of 12,000 quarters of illicit liquor, 480 beer bottles, and a transport vehicle, marks a significant enforcement success for Delhi Police. The arrest of a habitual bootlegger and the exposure of an interstate supply chain reflect the department’s proactive approach toward crime prevention.
As investigations continue, authorities are confident that further arrests and recoveries will follow, leading to the complete dismantling of the illicit liquor network. The case sends a strong message that illegal liquor trade will not be tolerated, especially during periods of heightened security and public sensitivity. Further investigation is underway.
