The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested the main accused involved in a serious assault on police case that dates back to February 2025. The accused, identified as 24-year-old Farman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, had been evading arrest for more than 16 months after allegedly attacking police personnel during an official patrol operation in North Delhi.

The arrest marks a crucial development in the assault on police investigation and highlights the increasing use of intelligence gathering, social media tracking, and technical surveillance by law enforcement agencies to trace absconding offenders.

The Incident That Triggered the Case

According to police officials, the incident occurred during the early hours of February 4, 2025, near the Iron Bridge area in Delhi. A patrol team from Police Station Kotwali attempted to stop a motorcycle for routine checking.

The motorcycle was allegedly being driven by Mohd Hasan, while Farman was riding pillion. Instead of cooperating with the police, the two men reportedly displayed an illegal firearm, threatened officers, physically assaulted them, and attempted to flee the scene.

Police personnel managed to overpower the suspects and recovered an unlicensed pistol, a magazine, and five live cartridges. While Hasan was arrested immediately, Farman escaped and remained untraceable for over a year, making the assault on police case a challenging investigation.

Crime Branch Launches Intensive Manhunt

Following the registration of the case, multiple efforts were undertaken to locate the absconding accused. However, Farman allegedly changed locations frequently and avoided direct contact with authorities.

The breakthrough came when officials from WR-I, Crime Branch received specific intelligence regarding his whereabouts. Acting on the information, a special team was formed under senior supervision to trace and apprehend the accused.

Investigators reportedly tracked Farman’s online activities and identified his social media presence. By analyzing digital footprints and technical data, the team was able to narrow down his movements and establish surveillance.

This demonstrates how modern policing increasingly combines traditional field intelligence with digital investigation techniques to solve complex cases involving assault on police personnel and other serious offences.

Arrest Near Delhi-Uttar Pradesh Border

Police officials stated that the accused was eventually located near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border during a targeted operation.

When the raiding team moved in, Farman allegedly attempted to escape and reportedly scuffled with officers. After a brief chase, he was successfully apprehended and taken into custody.

The operation was carried out by a dedicated Crime Branch team that had spent weeks developing intelligence and tracking leads. Officials described the arrest as an important step toward ensuring accountability for those who attack law enforcement personnel while they are performing official duties.

Why Assault on Police Cases Matter

Cases involving assault on police officers are treated seriously because they directly affect the ability of law enforcement agencies to maintain public order and enforce the law.

Police personnel often work in high-risk situations, including crime prevention, emergency response, and public safety operations. Any attack on officers while performing their duties can undermine law enforcement efforts and create broader security concerns.

Legal experts note that strict action in assault on police cases serves as a deterrent and reinforces the principle that public servants carrying out lawful duties must be protected under the law.

Accused’s Criminal Background

During interrogation, police verified Farman’s involvement in the current case and examined his criminal history.

Officials found that he had previously been linked to multiple theft-related cases and Arms Act violations registered in Uttar Pradesh. According to investigators, his criminal activities allegedly included theft and mobile phone snatching in crowded areas.

Police records indicate that he has been named in several earlier cases, adding to concerns regarding his continued involvement in criminal activities.

Technology’s Growing Role in Criminal Investigations

One of the notable aspects of this case is the role played by technology in locating the accused.

Law enforcement agencies across India are increasingly relying on digital intelligence, social media monitoring, communication analysis, and technical surveillance to track wanted criminals. Such tools have become essential in cases where suspects deliberately avoid conventional detection methods.

Experts believe that integrating technology with ground-level policing significantly improves the chances of solving long-pending cases and apprehending offenders who attempt to evade arrest.

Investigation Continues

With Farman now in custody, investigators are continuing their probe to determine whether he may have been involved in any additional criminal activities during the period he remained absconding.

Officials have indicated that further inquiries are underway and additional evidence may emerge as the investigation progresses.
