Armed conspirator networks involved in organized robberies often spend days, and sometimes weeks, planning their targets, studying routes, and identifying weaknesses before striking. In a major breakthrough, the Karol Bagh Police of Central District, Delhi, successfully prevented what could have been a high-value armed robbery involving gold, diamond jewellery, and other valuable consignments. The operation not only led to the arrest of five accused persons but also exposed a carefully planned criminal conspiracy that relied on insider information and illegal firearms.

The case highlights how alert policing, routine patrolling, and swift investigation can stop serious crimes before they occur. More importantly, it demonstrates how an armed conspirator group attempted to exploit confidential business information to target a courier carrying valuable consignments, only to be stopped by vigilant police personnel before their plan could be executed.

Suspicious Movement During Routine Patrol Raises Alarm

The entire operation began on June 13, 2026, when Head Constable Jasbir and Constable Mohit were carrying out routine patrolling duties near Street No. 58, Gurudwara Road, Nai Wala, Beadonpura in Karol Bagh.

During the patrol, the officers noticed a masked individual carrying a backpack and behaving suspiciously. Such observations may appear minor at first glance, but experienced police personnel are trained to identify unusual behaviour that could indicate criminal intent.

As soon as the suspect noticed the police team, he attempted to flee from the spot. His sudden attempt to escape immediately strengthened the officers’ suspicion. After a brief chase, the individual was successfully intercepted and searched.

What followed turned a routine patrol into one of the most significant crime prevention operations in recent weeks.

Police recovered a loaded country-made pistol and a loaded desi katta from the backpack. The accused was identified as 21-year-old Sumit, a resident of Loni Dehat in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Arms Act was registered at Police Station Karol Bagh, and investigators began examining why the accused was carrying multiple firearms and whether he was connected to a larger criminal network.

Interrogation Reveals Planned Robbery

As investigators questioned the arrested accused, a much larger conspiracy began to emerge.

During interrogation, Sumit disclosed that he was part of a group planning to rob a delivery agent associated with Jai Mata Di Courier Company. According to investigators, the targeted courier was responsible for transporting valuable consignments, including gold jewellery, diamond ornaments, and other high-value items.

The disclosure immediately elevated the seriousness of the case.

The armed conspirator group had allegedly been conducting reconnaissance of both the courier’s movement and the surrounding area for nearly a week to ten days. Such surveillance is a common tactic used by organized criminal groups to identify patterns, determine vulnerabilities, and choose the most suitable location for carrying out a robbery.

Investigators also learned that two associates of the accused were present nearby on a motorcycle with a concealed registration number plate, indicating that the gang was already in an advanced stage of preparation.

This information suggested that the robbery could have taken place within hours if the police had not intervened.

Swift Police Action Prevents Serious Crime

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, senior officers immediately formed a dedicated investigation team.

The team included SI Sachin, HC Raja Ram, Constable Kushal, and Constable Kamaljeet under the leadership of the Station House Officer of Karol Bagh and under the supervision of the ACP of the subdivision.

The investigators launched an intensive operation involving technical surveillance, intelligence gathering, analysis of communication patterns, and multiple raids at different locations.

Such investigations require a combination of field intelligence and technology. Officers often analyze movement patterns, communication records, and local intelligence inputs to identify suspects and establish connections among members of a criminal network.

Through continuous follow-up and coordinated raids, police successfully tracked down and arrested all remaining members of the conspiracy.

The operation not only prevented the planned robbery but also dismantled an entire armed conspirator network before any victim could be harmed.

Mastermind Identified During Investigation

One of the most significant developments in the case was the identification of the alleged mastermind behind the conspiracy.

Investigators found that 43-year-old Sandeep Delwan, a jeweller by profession and resident of West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area, played a central role in planning the proposed crime.

According to police findings, Sandeep had come into contact with another accused, Abhishek alias Babloo, approximately two to three months earlier.

Abhishek worked for JMD Courier and allegedly had access to confidential information regarding valuable consignments.

Investigators discovered that this insider access became the foundation of the entire conspiracy.

Police found that Abhishek allegedly shared sensitive information regarding delivery schedules, movement routes, and consignments containing gold and other valuables. This confidential information allowed the armed conspirator group to identify a suitable target and prepare for the robbery with considerable precision.

The use of insider information in organized crimes is a growing concern globally. Criminals increasingly attempt to exploit employees who have access to logistics, financial, or operational information. In many cases, insider leaks significantly increase the chances of a successful crime.

Fortunately, in this case, the conspiracy was exposed before it could progress further.

Financial Pressure Allegedly Motivated the Plot

Investigators also uncovered the motive behind the planned robbery.

According to police, Sandeep Delwan was reportedly facing financial difficulties and had outstanding liabilities that needed to be repaid.

Police believe that in an attempt to generate quick money, he entered into a conspiracy with co-accused Rohit.

Investigators found that the duo allegedly planned to use insider information supplied by Abhishek to target a courier carrying valuable items. The remaining members of the group were brought in to execute the robbery.

The investigation further revealed that the accused had already discussed how the proceeds of the proposed crime would be distributed.

According to police disclosures, Sandeep was expected to receive 30 percent of the looted property, while Rohit was also expected to receive 30 percent. The remaining share was to be divided among the other participants involved in carrying out the robbery.

These details indicate that the armed conspirator gang had moved beyond planning and had already begun operational preparations, including assigning roles and determining profit-sharing arrangements.

Illegal Weapons Recovered

A major achievement of the operation was the recovery of multiple illegal firearms.

Police recovered:

  • One country-made pistol with a live cartridge from accused Sumit.
  • One desi katta with a live cartridge from Sumit.
  • One country-made pistol from accused Sandeep Delwan.
  • One loaded katta and one live cartridge from accused Om Saini.

In total, investigators recovered four illegal firearms and three live cartridges.

The recovery of weapons suggests that the planned robbery had the potential to become violent.

Criminals carrying firearms significantly increase the risk of injury or death during robbery attempts. Victims, bystanders, and even law enforcement personnel face greater danger when weapons are involved.

By recovering these firearms before the planned attack, the police potentially prevented a serious violent incident in a crowded urban area.

Five Accused Arrested

The arrested accused have been identified as:

  • Sumit, 21, resident of Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad.
  • Kallu alias Om Saini, 22, resident of Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad.
  • Rohit, 30, resident of Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad.
  • Sandeep Delwan, 43, resident of Tilak Nagar, West Delhi.
  • Abhishek alias Babloo, 25, resident of Mangol Puri, Delhi.

Investigators have also examined the criminal history of several accused.

Police records indicate that Rohit was previously involved in two criminal cases, including an extortion case and an Arms Act case. Sandeep Delwan was reportedly involved in two cheating cases registered at Karol Bagh, while Om Saini had previously faced an Arms Act case.

These prior involvements are being examined as investigators continue to map the activities and associations of the group.

Insider Threats Remain a Serious Security Challenge

One of the most striking aspects of this case is the alleged role played by an insider.

Modern courier and logistics companies transport high-value goods worth crores of rupees every day. These operations rely heavily on confidentiality and secure information systems.

When employees leak delivery schedules, routes, or shipment details, criminals gain a significant advantage.

The present case serves as an important reminder for businesses to strengthen internal monitoring systems, employee verification processes, and information security protocols.

Experts frequently point out that insider threats can be just as dangerous as external criminal actors because insiders often possess information that cannot easily be obtained from outside sources.

The investigation suggests that without the information allegedly supplied by the courier employee, the armed conspirator group may never have been able to identify such a lucrative target.

Vigilant Policing Leads to Major Success

The success of this operation can largely be attributed to the alertness of the beat staff and the rapid response that followed.

What began as a routine patrol quickly transformed into a complex criminal investigation after officers acted on their instincts and intercepted a suspicious individual carrying illegal weapons.

The professionalism displayed by the police team prevented a potentially dangerous robbery involving gold and diamond consignments, led to the arrest of five accused persons, exposed an armed conspirator network, and resulted in the recovery of multiple illegal firearms.

The operation stands as a strong example of proactive policing, effective intelligence gathering, and coordinated investigative work. By acting before the crime could occur, Karol Bagh Police not only protected valuable property but also safeguarded public safety and demonstrated the importance of vigilance at the ground level.

Further investigation is continuing to identify the source of the recovered firearms, trace the weapon supply chain, and determine whether any additional individuals were connected to the conspiracy.
