In a major Robbery Gang breakthrough against organised property crime, the Special Staff of Delhi Police‘s Dwarka District has arrested three members of an alleged interstate robbery gang that had been targeting commercial establishments and residential areas across Dwarka and neighbouring districts. The accused, all linked to Loni in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, were allegedly using a luxury Kia Sonet SUV to travel across Delhi-NCR in an attempt to avoid suspicion during police checks.

Among those arrested is the alleged gang leader, Deepak Kumar, who police say has a long criminal history and was previously involved in nine criminal cases, including theft, burglary and offences under the Arms Act. According to investigators, Deepak had earlier been wanted in a robbery case registered in Dankaur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police in 2023 following an exchange of fire.

The operation also led to the recovery of three illegal firearms, live cartridges, house-breaking tools and the vehicle allegedly used in the crimes, highlighting what police described as a well-organised criminal network operating across state borders.

The arrests were made after a meticulous investigation involving CCTV analysis, technical surveillance and physical tracking, culminating in the gang’s capture near National Law University (NLU), Dwarka.

Incident That Triggered the Investigation

The investigation began in the early hours of 18 July 2026, when Police Station Dwarka North received a PCR call at approximately 1:53 AM reporting suspicious activity at a commercial building in Sector 17, Dwarka.

The caller, who works as the night manager at a Blinkit store, informed police that he had heard the caretaker of MNG Overseas Private Limited shouting “Chor! Chor!” after noticing an intruder inside the premises.

Responding to the commotion, the manager stepped outside and allegedly witnessed a man with his face covered emerging from the staircase of the building. According to the complaint, the suspect briefly exited the building before running towards a grey Kia Sonet parked on the main road.

During his escape, an object resembling a firearm reportedly slipped from the suspect’s pocket. The accused immediately picked it up before fleeing in the waiting vehicle along with his accomplices.

The incident raised immediate concerns because it indicated that the suspects were armed while committing property-related offences, significantly increasing the seriousness of the case.

Special Staff Forms Dedicated Investigation Team

Recognising the gravity of the incident, the Dwarka District Police constituted a dedicated investigation team under the leadership of Inspector Kamlesh Kumar, In-Charge of the Special Staff.

The team comprised experienced officers including:

The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP Operations Subhash Malik following directions from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka District.

Police officials initiated an intensive investigation by examining CCTV footage from the crime scene as well as surveillance cameras installed along nearby routes.

CCTV Footage Leads Police to the Suspects

During the investigation, officers identified a grey Kia Sonet SUV allegedly used by the suspects during the attempted burglary.

Investigators meticulously analysed multiple CCTV recordings to establish the vehicle’s movement before and after the incident.

The police then tracked the SUV from Dwarka to Loni in Ghaziabad, covering a distance of nearly 60 kilometres.

Instead of conducting an immediate raid, investigators maintained surveillance on the vehicle and monitored its movements over several days.

According to police, this strategy enabled officers to gather crucial intelligence regarding the suspects’ travel patterns and criminal activities before making arrests.

Three Accused Arrested Near NLU, Dwarka

The sustained surveillance paid off during the intervening night of 22–23 July 2026, when the same Kia Sonet was spotted near National Law University (NLU), Dwarka.

Police intercepted the vehicle and apprehended three individuals identified as:

• Deepak Kumar (28)
• Atul alias Ayush (23)
• Suhail (22)

A search conducted during the operation allegedly revealed that all three accused were carrying illegal firearms.

Further inspection of the SUV led to the recovery of a bag containing specialised house-breaking tools commonly used for burglary and theft.

Following the recovery, police registered FIR No. 243/26 at Police Station Dwarka North under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and initiated further investigation to determine the gang’s involvement in additional offences across Delhi-NCR.

Who Is the Alleged Gang Leader?

According to police records, Deepak Kumar, aged 28 and a resident of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, is the alleged mastermind behind the gang.

Investigators claim he has previously been involved in nine criminal cases, including theft, burglary and Arms Act violations.

Police also stated that Deepak had been absconding from court proceedings in connection with an earlier Arms Act case registered at Seemapuri Police Station in Delhi.

His criminal history reportedly extends beyond Delhi.

In 2023, Deepak was allegedly wanted in a robbery case registered at Police Station Dankaur in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. According to police, he was eventually arrested by the Ghaziabad Police after an exchange of fire.

Investigators believe his prior criminal experience enabled him to organise and lead the interstate gang.

Profiles of the Other Accused

Atul alias Ayush

The second accused, Atul alias Ayush, is a 23-year-old resident of Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad.

Police said he studied up to Class VIII and later came into contact with Deepak while living near him in Loni.

According to investigators, Atul was allegedly persuaded to join the gang in pursuit of quick financial gains.

Suhail

The third accused, Suhail, aged 22, is a resident of Old Mustafabad, Delhi.

Police stated that he has previously been involved in two criminal cases, including one related to armed robbery.

Investigators allege that he also joined Deepak’s gang to earn money through criminal activities.

Luxury SUV Used to Evade Suspicion

One of the most notable aspects of the investigation is the alleged use of a grey Kia Sonet SUV.

Police believe the accused deliberately travelled in a premium private vehicle to avoid attracting attention during routine police checking across Delhi and the National Capital Region.

Investigators suspect the vehicle enabled the gang to move quickly between districts while blending into normal traffic, making detection more difficult.

The use of luxury vehicles by organised criminal groups has increasingly become a challenge for law enforcement agencies, as such vehicles often appear less suspicious than older or stolen vehicles commonly associated with criminal activity.

Weapons and Burglary Equipment Recovered

The operation resulted in significant recoveries from the accused.

According to Dwarka Police, officers seized:

• One sophisticated pistol
• Two live cartridges from the sophisticated pistol
• Two country-made pistols
• Two live cartridges
• A large collection of specialised house-breaking tools
• One grey Kia Sonet SUV allegedly used during criminal activities

Investigators believe the recovered tools were specifically designed to facilitate forced entry into commercial establishments and residential properties.

The illegal firearms have been sent for forensic examination to determine whether they were used in previous criminal incidents.

Interstate Criminal Network Under Investigation

Police suspect the accused were operating as part of an organised interstate criminal network targeting properties across Delhi and adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh.

The investigation is now focused on determining:

• Whether the gang was involved in additional burglaries and robberies.
• Possible links with other criminal groups operating in Delhi-NCR.
• The source of the illegal firearms.
• Whether the recovered vehicle was used in previous offences.
• Any receivers involved in disposing of stolen property.

Officials are also examining CCTV footage from other unsolved burglary cases to establish possible connections with the arrested accused.

Police Continue Investigation

The Dwarka District Police have stated that further investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are questioning the accused regarding their previous criminal activities, associates and possible hideouts used during operations.

Police are also attempting to identify additional gang members who may still be active.

Given the accused’s interstate movements between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions are expected to coordinate during the investigation.

The arrest of the three alleged members of an interstate robbery gang marks a significant success for the Special Staff of Dwarka District Police. Through a combination of CCTV analysis, technical surveillance and persistent field intelligence, investigators were able to trace the suspects across state boundaries and apprehend them before further offences could allegedly be committed.
