The operation, carried out by the staff of Police Post (PP) Madipur under Police Station Punjabi Bagh, is being viewed as a significant success in the ongoing campaign against repeat offenders and organized street criminals operating in the national capital.
The arrested snatcher, identified as Radhey Shyam alias Budh Ram, is a resident of JJ Colony, Madipur, and has allegedly been involved in more than 27 criminal cases, including robbery, snatching, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and offences under the Arms Act. Police officials stated that the accused is also listed as a Bad Character (BC) of Police Station Punjabi Bagh, making him a known and closely monitored offender.
The arrest highlights the importance of proactive policing and regular patrolling in tackling street crime, particularly crimes committed by habitual offenders. The successful Snatcher operation not only led to the arrest of a notorious snatcher but also resulted in the recovery of illegal weapons and stolen property, preventing potential criminal incidents in the area.

Special Patrolling Operation Leads to Arrest
According to Delhi Police, the operation was conducted as part of a special drive aimed at controlling street crime and maintaining a strong police presence in vulnerable areas. The initiative was carried out under the leadership of SI Mukesh Yadav, In-Charge of PP Madipur, with the supervision of senior officers of Police Station Punjabi Bagh.
Police officials have intensified patrols in recent months as part of a broader strategy to curb crimes such as snatching, robbery, theft, and illegal possession of firearms. Such crimes often have a direct impact on public confidence and can create a sense of insecurity among residents.
On June 16, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM, Head Constable Sunny and Constable Nafe were conducting routine patrolling near Metro Pillar No. 151 on Main Rohtak Road, between Madipur Metro Station and Shivaji Park Metro Station. Snatcher While monitoring the area, the officers observed a man riding a scooter in a suspicious manner.
The rider appeared nervous and immediately drew the attention of the patrolling team. As soon as he noticed the police personnel, he allegedly attempted to make a sudden U-turn to avoid checking. Such evasive behaviour often serves as an indicator that an individual may be attempting to conceal illegal activity.
Recognizing the suspicious movement, the police team acted swiftly and pursued the rider. After a brief chase of approximately 20 to 25 metres, the officers successfully intercepted and apprehended the suspect.
The alertness and quick decision-making displayed by the police personnel played a crucial role in ensuring that the snatcher could not escape from the spot.

Illegal Weapon Recovered During Search
Following his apprehension, the suspect was subjected to a personal search. During the search, police recovered one country-made pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession.
The recovery of an illegal firearm from a habitual snatcher has raised serious concerns because such weapons are often used to intimidate victims and facilitate criminal activities. Police officials believe that the seizure of the weapon may have prevented future offences and potentially protected innocent citizens from becoming victims of violent crimes.
Illegal firearms continue to pose a major challenge for law enforcement agencies across the country. Country-made weapons are frequently used in street crimes due to their easy concealment and availability through illegal networks. The recovery of the pistol has therefore become an important aspect of the investigation.
Based on the recovery, police registered FIR No. 308/2026 under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Punjabi Bagh and initiated further legal proceedings against the accused.
Stolen Honda Activa Scooty Recovered
During the verification process, police made another important discovery. The Honda Activa scooter being ridden by the accused was found to be a stolen vehicle.
Police records revealed that the scooter, bearing registration number DL10ST5210, had been reported stolen earlier this year. The vehicle was linked to an e-FIR registered on May 22, 2026, under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Punjabi Bagh.
The recovery of the stolen scooter highlights the effectiveness of routine police checks and field-level vigilance. In many cases, stolen vehicles are used by criminals to commit further offences because they are difficult to trace immediately after theft. Recovering such vehicles not only helps solve theft cases but also provides valuable leads regarding broader criminal activities.
Officials noted that the recovery strengthens the case against the accused and provides additional evidence regarding his involvement in criminal activities.
A Snatcher With a Long Criminal History
Police records indicate that Radhey Shyam alias Budh Ram has a lengthy history of criminal involvement. Investigators revealed that the accused has allegedly been involved in more than 27 criminal cases registered at different police stations over the years.
His criminal record includes cases related to robbery, snatching, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and illegal possession of weapons. Such extensive involvement in criminal activities led police to categorize him as a Bad Character, a designation reserved for individuals who repeatedly engage in unlawful conduct and require close monitoring.
Law enforcement officials often face significant challenges when dealing with habitual offenders. Unlike first-time offenders, a repeat snatcher tends to have established criminal contacts, knowledge of police procedures, and experience in avoiding detection. This makes continuous surveillance and intelligence gathering essential.
Police sources stated that the accused had remained active despite previous legal action and had continued to pose a threat to public safety. His arrest is therefore being considered a significant achievement in the effort to reduce street crime in West Delhi.
Growing Concern Over Snatching Incidents
Snatching remains one of the most common forms of street crime in major metropolitan cities. Mobile phones, jewellery, handbags, wallets, and other valuables are often targeted by offenders who rely on speed and surprise to escape before victims can react.
A habitual snatcher can have a far-reaching impact on community safety because repeated incidents create fear among residents and discourage people from feeling secure in public spaces. Women, senior citizens, and daily commuters are often particularly vulnerable to such crimes.
Experts believe that effective policing strategies, including visible patrols, surveillance, intelligence-based operations, and quick response mechanisms, are essential in tackling these offences. The arrest of a repeat snatcher with a significant criminal record demonstrates how consistent policing efforts can disrupt criminal activities and enhance public security.
Police Vigilance Receives Appreciation
The successful operation has been widely appreciated within police circles and among local residents. The professionalism and alertness displayed by the PP Madipur staff have been credited for the successful apprehension of the accused.
Police officers on patrol are often the first line of defence against street crime. Their ability to identify suspicious behaviour, react quickly, and take decisive action frequently determines whether a criminal escapes or is brought to justice.
In this case, the vigilance shown by the patrolling team not only led to the arrest of a notorious snatcher but also resulted in the recovery of an illegal firearm and a stolen vehicle. Such recoveries are significant because they help prevent future crimes while simultaneously solving existing cases.
Senior officers have emphasized that sustained patrolling and community-focused policing remain among the most effective tools in combating street crime. The operation serves as an example of how dedicated police work can produce tangible results and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
Investigation Expands Beyond the Arrest
While the arrest marks a major achievement, investigators believe the case may lead to additional developments. Police are currently examining the accused’s recent activities, criminal associates, and possible involvement in other unsolved cases.
Efforts are also underway to trace the source of the illegal country-made pistol recovered from the accused. Determining how the weapon was obtained could provide important leads regarding illegal arms suppliers and criminal networks operating in the region.
Investigators are further exploring whether the snatcher had links with other offenders involved in vehicle thefts, robberies, or street crime. Such inquiries are expected to play a crucial role in uncovering wider criminal connections and preventing future offences.
The arrest of the notorious snatcher, combined with the recovery of an illegal firearm and a stolen scooter, stands as a strong example of effective policing in action. Through vigilance, dedication, and timely intervention, the staff of PP Madipur successfully removed a repeat offender from the streets and delivered another important blow to criminal activity in West Delhi.
