In a major push to strengthen Child Safety Awareness and promote community-based awareness, Delhi Police has launched an extensive set of initiatives as part of Child Safety Awareness Month, following the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The month-long campaign focuses on capacity building, preventive education, digital outreach, and practical self-defence training, aiming to create a safer and more informed environment for children across the National Capital.
The two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, which commenced yesterday, concluded today with significant participation from educators across Delhi. In total, 1,509 teachers were trained through physical sessions, representing nearly 1,000 government schools, while additional teachers from other schools participated through online training modules. These teachers will now serve as Master Trainers, further disseminating child safety knowledge to fellow educators and, ultimately, to students.

Building a Network of Master Trainers for Child Safety Awareness
The Training of Trainers programme has been designed as a cascading model to ensure maximum reach and long-term impact. Teachers trained during the programme will now train other teachers in their respective schools, who will then act as carriers of knowledge for children. This multi-layered approach aims to embed child safety awareness deeply within the school ecosystem rather than limiting it to one-time sessions.
According to Delhi Police officials, the focus of the training included identifying risks faced by children, understanding safe and unsafe situations, developing effective communication strategies with students, and promoting early reporting mechanisms. Teachers were also sensitised to behavioural indicators that may signal distress or vulnerability among children.
By empowering teachers as the first line of awareness and prevention, the programme seeks to create safer school environments and strengthen trust between students and educators.
Weekend Parent-Child Engagement Through Digital Resource Material
To ensure that child safety education extends beyond classrooms, the SPUWAC—the Delhi Police wing specialising in the safety of women and children—has designed weekly resource material for weekend activities involving parents.
Under this initiative, children will discuss specific safety-related topics with their parents over the weekend. These discussions will be followed by group discussions in classrooms every Monday, allowing children to share learnings, clarify doubts, and reinforce key messages.
Child Safety Awareness This model is intended to engage all stakeholders influencing a child’s growth—teachers, parents, and peers—thereby ensuring a holistic approach to child protection and awareness.
Paperless, Digital-First Approach to Training
In line with modern sustainability and efficiency goals, Delhi Police adopted digital-age training methods throughout the programme. All training resources, feedback mechanisms, and communication channels were developed digitally, ensuring that not a single sheet of paper was wasted.
Weekly educational material and updates will continue to be shared through digital platforms, enabling quick dissemination, real-time feedback, and broader accessibility. Officials stated that this approach not only aligns with environmental responsibility but also ensures consistency and scalability of training across schools.
Teachers Briefed on Latest Guidelines and Inspection Framework
As part of the ToT programme, teachers were also apprised of recent circulars and guidelines issued by the Delhi Education Department. These guidelines relate to child safety protocols, institutional responsibilities, and reporting mechanisms within educational institutions.
Additionally, teachers were informed about the checklist to be followed by district-level special committees, which include representatives from the education department, police, and other concerned agencies. These committees are scheduled to begin physical inspections from next week, ensuring compliance with child safety norms at the ground level.
The inspection drive aims to identify gaps in safety infrastructure, preparedness, and implementation, while also encouraging corrective measures where required.
Large-Scale Self-Defence Training Across Delhi
Parallel to the teachers’ training, self-defence training camps were organised at multiple locations across Delhi. On a single day, more than 3,500 participants benefitted from hands-on self-defence training programmes conducted by trained instructors.
Participants were taught practical techniques focusing on situational awareness, basic defensive moves, and confidence-building strategies. The sessions were designed to be simple, effective, and suitable for people of different age groups.
Delhi Police officials emphasised that self-defence training is not merely about physical techniques but also about developing mental alertness and the confidence to respond effectively in challenging situations.
Public Awareness Programme at Kartavya Path, India Gate
In the evening, a large-scale public awareness programme was organised at Kartavya Path, near India Gate, drawing the attention of citizens and visitors alike.
The programme featured:
- A live demonstration of self-defence techniques before an audience of around 250 spectators, showcasing practical safety skills.
- A performance by the Delhi Police Women Pipe & Brass Band, symbolising strength, discipline, and empowerment.
- Screening of child safety and awareness films through the Jan Sampark Vahan, an outreach vehicle used to disseminate public interest messages.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the shared responsibility of society in ensuring Child Safety Awareness and promoting awareness through community participation.
A Month-Long Commitment to Child Safety Awareness
Delhi Police has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding children through sustained awareness campaigns, training programmes, and community engagement initiatives throughout Child Safety Awareness Month.
Officials confirmed that a series of additional programmes, outreach activities, and interactive sessions will continue across the National Capital in the coming weeks. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening prevention mechanisms, encouraging early intervention, and fostering a culture of safety and vigilance.
