The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) marked Teachers’ Day with a special felicitation ceremony for its educators, while announcing a series of new initiatives aimed at strengthening municipal school education, promoting technology-based learning and identifying young sporting talent.
Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, along with Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, honoured municipal school teachers at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium at Civic Centre on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
During the Teachers’ Day programme, the MCD announced the “Nayi Disha, Nayi Udaan” initiative, under which 24 Nigam Shri Schools will be established across 12 MCD zones. The civic body also announced the launch of a Mini League for students studying in MCD schools and a Pratibhagita initiative aimed at improving educational quality and strengthening the connection between schools and parents.
A total of 87 educationists, including four principals and 83 teachers, were felicitated during the Teachers’ Day ceremony.
Harsh Malhotra Highlights Teachers’ Role on Teachers’ Day
Addressing the gathering at the Teachers’ Day event, Harsh Malhotra emphasised the central role of teachers in shaping society and preparing the next generation.
He said teachers carry the responsibility of building the future of the country because the children studying in classrooms today will become the citizens who shape India’s future.

30% of Delhi’s 5-10 Age Group Reportedly Studies in MCD Schools
Wahi also highlighted the scale of the MCD’s responsibility in providing education to children in Delhi.
According to figures shared during the programme, Delhi has approximately 20-21 lakh children in the five-to-10-year age group, with around 30% of these students studying in MCD schools.
The Mayor said providing these children with good facilities and quality education is an important responsibility of the civic administration.
The figures underline the significant role played by municipal schools in Delhi’s school education network, particularly among children in the early years of their education.
Wahi said MCD schools would continue to progress through the contribution of capable and talented teachers.
24 Nigam Shri Schools to Be Established Across 12 Zones
