Scan & Scam Foiled: QR Code Fraudster Arrested in Karol Bagh, 3 iPhones Recovered

Central District Police of Karol Bagh have successfully busted a QR code fraud case and arrested a 21-year-old आरोपी, Md. Parvez, a resident of Madhubani, Bihar. The arrest was made during routine patrolling in the busy Gaffar Market area.

The incident came to light on April 1, 2026, when a police team comprising ASI Veerpal, HC Sunil, and HC Manjeet noticed a suspicious person trying to sell multiple iPhones at a shop. Upon questioning, the accused failed to provide valid ownership details of the devices, raising suspicion.

During verification, it was found that one of the iPhones had been fraudulently obtained through a fake QR code payment and was linked to an e-FIR registered at PS Bhajanpura. Another iPhone was connected to a similar case reported at PS Hari Nagar. The third phone was also suspected to be stolen, as the accused could not justify its possession.

During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed his modus operandi. He used to pose as a genuine customer and target shopkeepers in busy markets. After selecting items like iPhones, cigarettes, and other goods, he would opt for QR code payment. When the payment appeared to fail, he would request an alternative mobile number, usually of a family member. He then showed a fake payment screenshot as proof and left the shop without making any actual payment. He admitted that this fraudulent activity was his main source of income.

Police have recovered three iPhones from his possession. The accused has been arrested under relevant provisions of BNSS, and the recovered items have been seized. Further investigation is underway to identify other victims and possible links to similar cases.

The successful detection of this QR code fraud case highlights the sharp vigilance and proactive policing of the Central District team. Under the leadership of DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh, the team of PS Karol Bagh displayed commendable alertness, swift action, and investigative skills in identifying and apprehending the accused at the right time.

Their timely intervention not only prevented further cheating incidents but also helped in linking the accused to multiple cases across different police stations. Such dedicated efforts reflect the commitment of the Delhi Police towards maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and trust of traders and the general public.
